Для оцінювання результативності наукової діяльності наукових і науково-педагогічних працівників, а також діяльності сучасного ЗВО в цілому важливе місце відводиться наукометрії – напряму досліджень, що вивчає еволюцію науки через численні вимірювання наукової інформації, такі як кількість наукових статей, опублікованих в даний період часу, цитованість тощо, а також займається статистичними дослідженнями структури та динаміки масивів і потоків наукової інформації. У Мелітопольському державному педагогічному університеті імені Богдана Хмельницького постійно здійснюється дослідження публікаційної активності та цитованості співробітників-авторів наукових праць. Серед найбільш вагомих критеріїв значення показників індексів Гірша науково-педагогічних та наукових працівників у наукометричних базах Scopus, Web of Science (наукометрічні показники: ID Scopus та h-index Scopus, ID Web of Science та h-index Web of Science*) та кількість науково-педагогічних та наукових працівників, які мають не менше п’яти наукових публікацій у періодичних виданнях, що індексуються в наукометричних базах Scopus або Web of Science.
В Університеті створюються умови для реалізації пріоритетних цілей держави, у тому числі й для представлення наукових досягнень на принципово нових рівнях, що дозволяє популяризувати їх у національному й світовому науково-освітньому просторі.
Науковими та науково-педагогічними працівниками Університету упродовж 2022 року опубліковано низку робіт у виданнях, що індексуються наукометричними базами даних Scopus і Web of Science (табл. 1). До таблиці також включено публікації, які були опубліковані й у попередні роки, але проіндексовані у наукометричних базах даних у 2022 р.

За показниками публікаційної активності наукових і науково-педагогічних працівників ЗВО у періодичних виданнях, що індексуються в наукометричних базах Scopus, створюється відповідний рейтинг. До рейтингу, що грунтується на показниках бази даних Scopus у 2022 р., було включено 195 закладів вищої освіти України. Згідно з показниками наукометричної бази даних SciVerse Scopus 2022 року, Університет займає 105 місце (Рейтинг університетів за показниками Scopus 2022 року – Освіта.UA (osvita.ua)). Порівняно з рейтингом 2021 року спостерігається позитивна динаміка – Університет посідав 123 місце.
